Congressman Ted Lieu began by telling about growing up in southern California, undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his law degree from Georgetown University, and he is a colonel in the US Air Force Reserves. He addressed three current issues at the national level: health care, tax reform, and North Korea.
Both the Congressman and the State Senator emphasized that their offices are open to citizens’ requests for solving personal and organizational issues at both the national and state level. In particular, the Congressman noted that his office can assist with expediting passport renewals and the timely and accurate issuance of social security checks.

Organized by PVP Rotarian Eileen Hupp and the Palos Verdes Chamber of Commerce, a packed house assembled for the Legislative Forum on Friday, October 20 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. Joining our Club’s members were individuals from throughout the South Bay, gathering to hear from our distinguished panelists: The Honorable Ted W. Lieu, US Congressman from our 33rd District and The Honorable Ben Allen, our State Senator for the 26th District.
Congressman Ted Lieu began by telling about growing up in southern California with his hard-working parents. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his law degree from Georgetown University, and he is a colonel in the US Air Force Reserves. He addressed three current issues at the national level: health care, tax reform, and North Korea.
Regarding health care, Congressman Lieu said he would vote to repeal Obamacare if there were a better plan, but none have been brought forth. He feels that President Trump’s executive orders are making matters worse in the field of health care. On tax reform, the Congressman feels that there are currently no workable options. North Korea, he stated, is a long-term problem. Economic sanctions are in place, and diplomacy is at work. The Congressman feels that a missile defense system should be rapidly developed, employing high-tech lasers and other current technology.
State Senator Allen is a graduate of Harvard and Cambridge universities and earned his law degree at UC Berkeley. He noted that California is the world’s fifth largest economy, and he addressed a number of state issues in his remarks. He congratulated the Governor on his fiscal prudence in establishing a Rainy Day Fund, noting that we are experiencing an unprecedented nine years of continued economic growth. He applauded the recent changes in the school financing structure whereby areas with high poverty rates are receiving greater funding. There is a $3 billion infrastructure initiative in place, and he is working closely with Ted Liu in keeping the LA Air Force Base in operation, noting its strategic importance and its synergism with the local aerospace industry.
