On the Waterfront--The Reinvention of the Port of Los Angeles

One of the region's most exciting projects is taking place at the Port of Los Angeles - the reinvention of the Los Angeles waterfront. Adding to its history as America's Port, the Los Angeles waterfront is becoming a focal point for those to enjoy the theatre of a working port. Along with amazing public spaces such as plazas, recreational harbors, museums, parks and continuous promenades, the San Pedro Waterfront Project adds a new marina, the Battleship USS Iowa, a new Craft Marketplace and expanded commercial opportunities at Ports O' Call Village.  The area adjacent to the Port in Wilmington with the newly constructed Wilmington Waterfront Park, the Harry Bridges Boulevard beautification project, and the proposed waterfront area at the end of Avalon Boulevard will become a gathering point for residents and visitors alike.

Speaker Augie Bezmalinovich works for the Community Relations Division at the Port of Los Angeles as the Community Affairs Advocate.  He serves as a liaison between the various communities surrounding the Port of Los Angeles and throughout the Southern California region to educate and promote the Port as both a regional community partner and major economic asset.  He works with community leaders and Port-related business stakeholders to identify programs and venues for facilitation of Port and community interactions citywide and provide strategies for overcoming or resolving community issues that impact the Port.

Augie is a lifelong resident of San Pedro where his family has lived for close to 100 years and he graduated from Mary Star of the Sea High School and from the University of Southern California.  He and his wife Lynn have 3 children and 2 grand-children.
