will be the site of our

Thanks to the thorough location search, and the hard charging negotiation skills of Minal Mondkar, our holiday party will take place on DECEMBER 14, 2025 at the beautiful Terranea Resort. In order to help make it more fun, and financially worthy, we ask every member to attend and bring a guest. Members pay no additional amount and each guest will be $85. Officially reported WPV1 and cVDPV cases as of 23 September 2025
Wild poliovirus (WPV)
  • Total global WPV1 cases in 2024: 99
  • Total global WPV1 cases in 2025: 30 (compared with 40 for the same period in 2024)

Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) cases
  • Total global cVDPV cases in 2024: 463
  • Total global cVDPV cases in 2025: 150 (compared with 170 for the same period in 2024)

GPEI donors and partners reaffirm commitment to end polio
Senior global health leaders met this week to discuss the final push to eradicate polio in a side event of the 80th United Nations General Assembly. The event, ‘United to Finish the Job: High Level Side-Event on Polio Eradication’, co-hosted by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), addressed the urgent need to end wild polio transmission in Afghanistan and Pakistan while strengthening response to variant poliovirus outbreaks in fragile settings across Africa and Asia. Polio eradication – not time to quit, time to recommit
Ziad Memish, advisor to the Supervisor General of KSRelief for Medical & Humanitarian Research, and Hamid Jafari, Director for Polio Eradication in WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region, published a piece in Arab News highlighting the importance of solidarity, resources and Saudi Arabia’s historic US$500 million pledge. WHO DG Dr Tedros on partners’ commitment to polio eradication
At Sunday’s GPEI Polio Oversight Board (POB) meeting, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus spoke of partners’ commitment to ending polio and the importance of building on polio investments to help strengthen broader health systems. Read more here.
Immunizations are one of Africa’s Greatest Public Health Success Stories
As part of a series of UN Foundation podcasts on Future of Africa, experts including Dr Jamal Ahmed, WHO Director for Polio Eradication and Chair of the GPEI Strategy Committee, discuss the impact vaccines have had on the lives of children across Africa.   • Pakistan : two WPV1 cases and 50 WPV1-positive environmental samples
  • Algeria : one cVDPV2-positive environmental sample

  • Nigeria : four cVDPV2 cases

Club Bylaws

    Continuing the reading of a section of our club's by-laws each week.
If you were there, you know there was a little extra added to the reading, just to help keep members and guests awake! 
 
Article 4: Duties of Officers
Section 1 - President. It shall be the duty of the President to preside at meetings of the club and the Board and to perform other duties as ordinarily pertain to the office of President. 
Section 2 - Immediate Past President. It shall be the duty of the immediate past President to advise the new President, serve as a director, and to perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the President or the Board. 
Section 3 - President-elect. It shall be the duty of the President-elect to serve as a director and to perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the President or the Board. 
Section 4 - Secretary. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep membership records; record attendance at meetings; record and preserve the minutes of such meetings; report as required to RI; and perform other duties as usually pertain to the office ol'Secretary. 
Section 5 - Treasurer. It shal I be the duty of the Treasurer to have custody of al I funds. accounting for it to the club annually and at any other time upon demand by the Board, and to perform other duties as pertains to the office of Treasurer. Within one month of the conclusion of the term of office, the Treasurer shall turn over to the incoming Treasurer or to the President all funds, books of accounts, and any other club property.
