By: Norton Donner

There were several announcements:

Wednesday Nite Live will be August 14 at PVCC
The trial Breakfast meeting will be Friday September 13
District Breakfast will be free for new members for their first year in Rotary
Angels Gate project will be September 7th
Book project will be August 6
We were presented a check for $35,000.00 as our share of the proceeds from the Beer and Wine Festival

Our guest speaker was Alee Spector, a world record paddler, both board and outrigger, high school teacher, distance runner, mother and mentor.
She moved to our area from New York and has always been a recycler and interested in giving back to the community. She attended UC Santa Cruz and Long Beach State.

She had some short film clips of her paddling.  Paddling is quite a strenuous sport and requires constant training.  She said she enjoys the training more than the actual competitions.  She related it to our club motto, “service above self”. One her greatest joy is teaching other young women the sport of paddling.

She uses her paddling to raise money for “Ocean of Hope”, a non-profit raising funds for patients suffering from a rare sarcoma (cancer).

Her paddling trio paddled from Cuba to Key West as a relay team in a world record
23 hours and 27 minutes.

She also ran a 100 mile race to raise funds for Ocean of Hope in 21 hours and 27 minutes. An amazing feat for anyone.  Her feet paid the price.

Past President Suzy Zimmerman with speaker Elite Athlete, Aimee Spector
Past District Governor, Greg O’Brien with guest, Mike Spalding, teacher at Peninsula High and son of Dr. John Spalding. Dr. Spalding is a charter member of our club; Mike will be instrumental in assisting with the PV Peninsula High School Interact Club!

ROTARIANS AT WORK!

A team of our Rotarians purchased $1000 worth of books donated by our Club for the LA Port Boys and Girls Club and the San Pedro YMCA and read to each group.
