Hard to believe but next week is Thanksgiving! Where does the time go when you're having this much fun? Don't forget we have another off-site club meeting this week.
This Friday, we're at the LA Yacht Club. The location is 285 Whalers Walk in San Pedro. By the way, did you know the pronunciation of San Pedro is uniquely divided? If you're from elsewhere in the L.A. area you probably use the traditional Spanish San PAY-dro, while if you live in the harbor community you know it's pronounced San PEE-dro. I learned this because I was recently corrected at a party for saying it the wrong way. Want to know who corrected me? Here's the hint, he's a Rotarian but not from our club.
Next, let's talk about Duncan and the Red Kettle Program. Fun fact about Duncan - he lived on a boat. We learned that last Friday when we visited The Salvation Army Campus and heard from Officer Sean O'Brien, a long-time friend of Mr. Suttons.
Red Kettle Program
We had a delicious boxed lunch at The Beautiful Salvation Army Campus last Friday while hearing about The Salvation Army Red Kettle Program from a sixth-generation Salvation Army Officer. Office Sean O'Brien shared the history of the Red Kettle Program, and how it was started by Joseph McPhee in 1891 in San Francisco with the goal to raise enough money to feed 1,000 people for the holidays. He accomplished his goal and created an American tradition. One hundred and thirty years later, Red Kettle helps feed millions of people every year.
However, due to the rising cost of minimum wage, and other factors, The Salvation Army needs volunteers this year to help. They are looking for both sponsorship and volunteers. If this sounds like something you'd like to learn more about, you can email:

November is Rotary Foundation Month
November is The Rotary Foundation Month, a time for members to imagine what is possible through The Rotary Foundation. Your generosity this past year led to record breaking per capita contributions throughout our Zones. These donations benefit districts and clubs as District Designated Funds for future projects and they support the World Fund for matching grants. Here are some inspiring projects that demonstrate the good your donations can do:
Many Rotarians have asked if they will be seated with their group at the concert- the answer is YES!
After ticket sales close, the event committee will group Rotarians from their respective clubs together. Simply purchase tickets for the price tier(s) your members are interested in, and you will automatically be seated with your fellow club members in each tier of the venue.
Make this an unforgettable club experience and encourage your fellow Rotarians to attend!
