Your Weekly Update

September 8th, 2024
Dear Rotarians,

I am thrilled to share that this week's newsletter is chock-full of club projects and news. Seriously, there is a lot going on and many announcements in the coming weeks. So, grab your Pumpkin Spice Lattes and get comfortable because we have a lot to go over.

Let's open with a big thank you to Jennifer Addington for hosting us at the Library last week and President Julia for bringing lunch. It was a very fun club assembly.

For members of the board, do not forget we have a board meeting this Friday after the club meeting at 1:45. Speaking of club meetings, this week we are back at Los Verdes for Frontida Records at noon. Frontida Records is a nonprofit that builds customizable digital health applications for low-resource, rural, and crisis-responding communities. Frontida was founded by students at USC and has grown to serve 6+ countries. It should be a fun one - don't miss it.

President Julia Parton in the news!

Big congratulations to President Julia Parton for starting off her presidency with a beautiful spread in Southbay Magazine. The women presidents of the South Bay represented and looked great while doing it.

HOVOOTM TIME

We have TWO HOVOOTMs coming up, so mark your calendars. Strides In Recovery needs volunteers to help the day of the 5k run. Strides in Recovery brings running programs into men's sober living and recovery centers. Click below to learn lots more and get to the event page. They need volunteers for Sunday morning on the 24th.

Our second HOVOOTM is to participate in the Coastal Clean-up Day on September 23rd. Coastal Clean Up Day is the largest volunteer day on the planet, which is coordinated with the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay. Torrance recognizes that by cleaning up the beaches, the community is participating in this global effort to keep our oceans healthy, to keep our water source healthy, and to keep our community healthy. Partnering with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, Team Torrance will be back on the beach participating for our record 26th year! This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, from 9:00AM to 12:00PMVolunteers will meet at Miramar Park/Torrance Beach.

David Rowe and I have sign up sheets and will bring them to Friday's meeting.
