Just off the plane Carol tells us "Attending the Rotary International convention in Taipei opened my eyes to the huge impact Rotary has worldwide. Attendance was listed at 40,000 from all over the world. I attended conferences, working group sessions, met Rotarians from all over the globe, and even found our District 5280 friends there.
Rotary has impacted millions of people’s lives worldwide, and we can all be proud of the hundreds of ongoing humanitarian projects . If anyone in our club is considering attending the RI convention in Barcelona next year, I highly recommend it!"

Visit Other Clubs
Last week Daniel Elroi reported on his visit to “Not LA-5,” AKA the Rotary Club of Downtown Los Angeles. While he went expecting 100's of members, he discovered a little known Gem. There is another LA Club that is small but mighty. they have about 12 members and organize the District Picnic at the Lagoon each year.
Paul Klose visited the Santa Monica Rotary Club on Friday at Noon, meeting the same time as our club. Attendance was 40-50 members with a $65 buffet at Hilton hotel. The speaker was Dr. Kiersten Elliott, Dean of Community and Academic Relations at Santa Monica College. Paul reported they had a platform with a podium and a table for the speaker(s) and two people who were presented with checks. The president Mitchell Kraus spent 2 minutes each to introduce a new member and a "classic" member. He had to take over as president when his predecessor moved away after his house was burned.
On Wednesday, May 20 the PVP Rotary Club conducted a friendly take over of the West Torrance Rotary Club when Kath Anderson, Cindy Martin, John Schuricht and Jennifer Addington all attended their lunch time meeting at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Torrance. Held in a lovely private room, the meeting began with a warm welcome from the members, several of whom were already acquainted with our group. They enjoyed a talk from LA County Assessor Jeffrey Prang, a lovely lunch provided by the hotel and camaraderie with fellow Rotarians. Jennifer notes she especially enjoyed the location which was very welcoming and fit the small club perfectly, and the multiple lunch options provided by the hotel. She also appreciated the agenda they provided to each member which helped keep everyone organized and on track. Overall, she reported, “we had a very good visit. ”

Collections for Families
at Camp Pendleton
District 5280 will be once again be collecting for our young military families. Mark your calendar for July 11th. More details to come.
Here is an overview of the program:
There are over 70,000 Marines at Camp Pendleton and 10,000 children under the age of 5! More than 160 babies are born there each month! Most families arrive with whatever they can fit in their car. With a very low income, most do not have everything they need for newborns and small children. They also have to furnish an apartment and set up a kitchen.
The Rotary Clubs in District 5280 are collecting new and gently used baby, child and household items for these young families. The families will select what they need from our contributions to the "Warrior Warehouse" at Camp Pendleton.
Items in the greatest need are: Diapers, diapers and more diapers, baby and young children's clothing, toys, books, bathtubs, strollers, cribs, dishes, cookware, meal preparation tools, bedding and gift cards ($25) from Target and Walmart.
