Paul Klose Visits

Rotary in Kenya

Paul visited this Rotary Club  in Kenya which has a water project building a sand dam which is a small dam to capture water for a village during the rainy season. He was so impressed he donated to help make the project successful.

Here is Paul learning about a project run by the Ngoi Foundation run by Rotary Club VP Anthony Hulula. The program trains community members how to become electricians. One lucky student had his tuition paid for by Paul

RPV City Manager

 Ara Mihranian Speaks about

Landslides and City Finances

Ara Mihranian, RPV City Manager Extraordinaire, came and spoke at our club meeting last week. Ara has been at the tip of the spear managing the crisis of the landslides in his city. Above is a picture showing the pace of the movement in the land in the Portuguese Bend area - Red means the land is moving 12" per week. This was near the peak of movement on May 28, 2024. Below that picture was a the movement status as of August 5, 2025. The water pumps installed to remove underground water have helped to slow the slide significantly. Over 350 Million gallons of water has been pumped out of the ground since the project began, and it continues today.
While the city was prudent in building up a reserve primarily from the Occupancy and similar taxes, much of it has been depleted spending $48 million to date on the landslide issue. Close to 30 homes have been red-tagged and close to another 40 have been yellow tagged.
He also discussed the Wayfarers church and the land they are trying to acquire from the Coast Guard, and the fire prevention efforts including 24 hour cameras using ai technology.
