Thursday, August 24th, 2017 In addition to serving a fine selection of small batch flavored brews, food trucks offered a selection of venison burgers and fries from France. Though the Rotarian’s were partaking in the beverages and were tempted by the foreign sections, most everyone chose the meal made in a Rotary home rather than the greasy trucks. David Henseler of South Bay Sunrise made twice his weight in chili; served out of two pots about half his size, one with a “vegetarian” option in the slightly smaller one. He also shared the moistest cornbread that tasted highly-caloric. To accompany this meal there was a selection, Tabasco, Siracha, sliced jalapenos, onions and cheese, Dr. Nikakhktar a Board-Certified Disability Analyst of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club, approved all of this. While the president of that club, Lynne Neuman tried to steal the spotlight with her rendition of Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Mark Mazorow, the vice-president of the same club, finished off the left overs and then tried to suck in his gut for show. While this pomp and circumstance was occurring, Greg Sparkman of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club and David Henseler of South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club took the attention of news reporters from Torrance TV. Their actions spoke louder than their words because the brewery chambers did not offer acoustics formidable to making any sort of announcement or presentation. Brian Herlihy of Titos Handmade Vodka (a festival participant) had challenged the Beer & Wine Festival to raise $4,000 for the Wounded Heroes of America, not to be mistaken for the Wounded Warrior’s Projected by offing to match the festival’s $2,000 donation. Each of the three participating Rotary Club’s agreed and David Henseler presented Mike Talleda, Executive Director, and 2 veterans with a negotiable check in the sum of $6,000. Lynne Neuman presented a $5,000 check to Dr. Rebecca Foo, Executive Director, Danielle Wagner, Development Director, nd Dr. Wendy White, Programs Manager of the Switzer Learning Center, a nonprofit special education school offering therapeutic services, Autism programs and enrichment classes and extracurricular activities serving students from 3rd grade to 22 years of age with learning disabilities, or emotional/attention/behavioral issues. David Henseler presented Morey Rice, Board President of Friends of Torrance Exceptional Athletes, with $3,000; Kerry Ryerson, Director of Marketing for Harbor Regional Center, with $2,000; and Teri Turner, "House Mother" for ARC House, Torrance, with $1,000. At the end of the night, everyone was able to purchase discounted cans and bottles of booze for the road!
