We are truly honored to welcome this week's guest speaker - Howard Kakita. As a young boy, Howard was visiting his grandparents in Hiroshima when the bomb hit. Living less than a mile from ground zero, Howard will share his story of survival in the aftermath of one of the world's most devastating events.
Please invite your friends and family for this unique opportunity to hear Howard's story "Under the Mushroom Cloud."
Looking forward to seeing you this Friday, in our last meeting for November.
Sincerely,
Eileen

Crutches to Costa Rica:
From Frank Vranesic:
About 2 dozen Rotarians and Rotaracters from around the district got together on Saturday morning to pack medical equipment for shipment to Costa Rica. We packed 9 crates full of crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs during the morning.
I had a great time. One of my college jobs was on a loading dock, and this brought back a few memories of those days.
Cheers,
Frank

Rise Against Hunger
From Les Fishman
Lynne and I were the dynamic duo at the Rise Against Hunger project. There were two areas of workers - in the "rock climbing" room and in the gym. We packaged 16,000 bags with each one feeding six kids. The other clubs included the Sunrise Club, the Torrance/Del Amo club, and the PV Sunset club. It was very organized and the teams worked well together. It was definitely a feel good Rotary event.
Hands-on Community service projects
Here’s another great hands-on community service project. This Sunday, November 22, please join fellow Rotarians to sort and package shoes that will be sent to Skid Row and also to Soles4Souls (a nonprofit which sends shoes all over the world). This project will be done outdoors. Meet at David Henseler’s home (South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club) at noon this Sunday. 3210 Singingwood Drive, Torrance CA 90505. (David’s phone number is 310-753-0929). Family members are welcome to help too. Masks required; gloves suggested. No need to RSVP – just show up! (And take some pictures of all the “dogoodery” you are doing in our community!)
Pete Settelmayer, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor will be giving a brief overview of the organization, some of their future plans and an update on Collge Bound.
This is an offsite meeting and will be held at the Boys & Girls Club at 1200 S. Cabrillo Avenue. San Pedro, CA 90731
