JUAN BUENO | CRAFT TALK
There is something about the number 11 that keeps cropping up in the life of La Rotacion editor Juan Bueno. Juan’s father was one of 11 children. Juan was one of 11 children as well. Last Friday, May 11, Juan gave his first Rotary craft talk, bookended by his birthday on Thursday (the 10th) and his first club anniversary on Saturday (the 12th).
Born in Mexico in a small village near Puerto Vallarta, Juan’s family immigrated to Inglewood, where he was raised. After graduating from Morningside High School as editor of the school newspaper, Juan received a “working ($2,000 per week) scholarship” paid by Amblin Entertainment (a Steven Spielberg Company) to attend the prestigious USC Cinematic Arts Program. As part of his cinema experience, Juan visited several production sets before being assigned to the crew of the motion picture Trigger Effect, co-starring two-time Golden Globe Best Actor Kyle MacLachlan and Academy Award nominee (Best Actress) Elisabeth Shue for her later starring role in Leaving Las Vegas.
Working in the entertainment industry, Juan discovered an interest in business, graduating with a business degree from Cal State Long Beach. When he met his wife Vicky, it was love at first sight. The pair married later married and live in Rolling Hills Estates with their five children. (Their youngest, Twins are 5 months in age .)
Today he is a vice president and senior accounts executive with the Old Republic Title Company, one of the largest title insurance groups in the U.S., where he manages an independent office here in the South Bay. As part of his responsibilities, Juan’s frequent public presentations have taken him to 15 countries on behalf of his company.
Meanwhile, he has launched a new adventure in broadcasting as the host of a social media talk show called Peninsula Bay Talk, where he has so far interviewed more than 50 guests and is looking for syndication by a major media company. A man with seemingly boundless creativity, Juan hopes to interview our members as part of a digital scrapbook celebrating the Rotary Club of Palos Verdes Peninsula. Lucky us!
