The Local History Center

We are pleased to welcome PVLD archivists Monique Sugimoto and Tennessee Gardner to share updates on the library's wonderful Local History Center. They will give us the low down on a fabluous new community digital archive, plus sharing all the new exciting things going on with local history. It's a program not to be missed!

Monique Sugimoto is the archivist and local history librarian with the Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD), a position she has held since 2012.  Monique aids the Library’s mission of facilitating the preservation of the Peninsula’s history by collecting and making accessible materials of historic value on all aspects of Peninsula history including its ranching and agricultural period, early land development, city formation and its social and cultural history. Prior to joining PVLD, Monique was an archivist with the National Archives and Records Administration Riverside field office in Perris, California and the UCLA University Archives.

Tennessee Gardner is an archivist with the Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD). Tennessee was raised in Palos Verdes, and is passionate about the community. She can be found in the Local History Center, aiding in the Library’s mission in the preservation of the Peninsula’s history and assisting in making materials accessible. Prior to joining PVLD, Tennessee worked with California State Parks, Ashland the Henry Clay Estate, and curated the UNESCO Nan Madol site on the island of Pohnpei. For the past 7 years she has worked with the City of Los Angeles at Point Fermin Lighthouse. Tennessee holds a Master’s in Heritage Conservation from the University of Southern California, and is currently working on a Master’s in Library Science at the University of Kentucky.
