Prez Keith says . . .
Fellow Rotarians,
I hope you can attend our "kick-off" business meeting at PVGC on July 9 to activate our theme, "The Palos Verdes Rotary Club: The Most Trusted Name in Community Service." We plan for this to be a year of fun and hands-on community service. This can only happen, however, if each of you is active and energized. As District Governor Doug Baker says, we want to be better, bigger, and bolder.
Hope to see all your shining (or powdered) faces on July 9.

July 16 program:
How's your online reputation?
Maintain a positive presence on the Internet
In today's world, anyone and any company can become the victim of an online attack from a disgruntled acquaintance, customer, or competitor having a computer and an Internet connection. Because of the quick and easy nature of online search, negative blog posts, comments, and press can quickly tarnish a reputation and negatively affect a company's profitability.
However, there are ways to counter them using the same techniques applied by Internet reputation-management experts. Our guest speaker on July 16, Kent Campbell, is one such expert. Don't miss his presentation. It may be vital to repair or maintaining the health of your presence on the Internet.
This program is perfect for your guests: family, friends, business associates.

July 23 program:
Wired. The Shocking Truth About Your Electric Bill
We're all getting "smart meters" this summer. No need to sign up. It'll just be a done deal at your residence and business between June and August this year.
What does this mean, exactly? According to the Edison website, SCE will begin to measure your monthly energy usage remotely, rather than by visiting your property. Later, new programs and services will become available for customers with smart meters.
But that's not the entire story. Join us on July 23 to find out more as SCE representative Bernice Maldonado presents a most informative program. Perfect for guests!

July 30 program:
From the Gulf War to Water Wars
Water is a political issue in the Western states and as California's centuries-old water war threatens to once-again engulf entire state, we're reminded of the old saw usually attributed to Mark Twain: "In the West, whiskey is for drinkin', water is for fightin'."
Who better to be fighting in these wet trenches than retired Navy Captain Ron Waldermuth, former public relations adviser to General Normal Schwarzkopf before, during and after the Gulf War. Join us on July 30 as Ron, now the governmental affairs manager for the West Basin Municipal Water District, gives us a blow-by-blow description of the skirmishes, tactics, and perspectives in a war whose outcome will definitely affect our way of live in Southern California.
Bring your guests!
