Join us on Friday, 7/23 at LA County Fire Dept. Station 106 in Rolling Hills to tour recent improvents to the station. We received a $2,000 District Grant for the Refurbishment of the Community Room & Kitchen area of Fire Station 106. Our Club contributed the District Grant Application fee, plus additional funds (from prior Beer & Wine Festival proceeds) to cover the project budget. Our initial plan had envisioned Rotarians providing volunteer labor and working with the men & women of Station 106 on the actual work. However, due to County-imposed COVID-19 restrictions, the public was not allowed into the Fire Station for the duration of the project. Therefore, all the volunteer labor was provided by the men & women of Fire Station 106. Our funding covered the materials. The flooring was completely replaced… from old, musty carpet and broken tiles to new, hygienic vinyl wood-like flooring. In addition, the entire area was re-painted…from an old “mushroom color” to a new lighter color. Other related repairs were made and a large, new whiteboard was purchased. |

A graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, he served in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for 30 years prior to retiring with the rank of Captain. Please make every effort to attend this Friday's club meeting at Los Verdes Golf Course. As you know, we will be inducting former Rotarian Bob Ferrera (Fight On!), who was both a principal and assistant superintendent here in PVPUSD, before becoming superintendent of Centinela USD, Grand Rapids USD, and Minneapolis USD. Our speaker will be Christine Chui (Fight On!), who fittingly will be giving her new member craft talk. We expect several prospective members to join us for lunch, including financial advisor Chris Randall, Beacon House executive Archie Hoggan, and opera singer Nagahin Ozturk. Please invite one of them to sit at your table and engage them in conversation! Let them see what a great club we are! Let them see what a great club we are! (Hope you will excuse the USC references, but after many frustrating seasons of subpar football, this has been a great week to be a Trojan.) Greg O'Brien Club Membership Chair |
