Join us on Friday, 7/23 at LA County Fire Dept. Station 106 in Rolling Hills to tour recent improvents to the station. We received a $2,000 District Grant for the Refurbishment of the Community Room & Kitchen area of Fire Station 106. Our Club contributed the District Grant Application fee, plus additional funds (from prior Beer & Wine Festival proceeds) to cover the project budget. Our initial plan had envisioned Rotarians providing volunteer labor and working with the men & women of Station 106 on the actual work. However, due to County-imposed COVID-19 restrictions, the public was not allowed into the Fire Station for the duration of the project. Therefore, all the volunteer labor was provided by the men & women of Fire Station 106. Our funding covered the materials. The flooring was completely replaced… from old, musty carpet and broken tiles to new, hygienic vinyl wood-like flooring. In addition, the entire area was re-painted…from an old “mushroom color” to a new lighter color. Other related repairs were made and a large, new whiteboard was purchased. |

Please welcome Andrea Barohona, Community Engagement Coordinator for Rainbow Services, Ltd. Rainbow Services’ (Rainbow) seeks to end the cycle of abuse and violence in families. We provide a comprehensive range of services and/or shelter to support survivors of domestic violence (DV) and their children as they transition from crisis to stability and safety. Rainbow serves the Harbor and South Bay areas of Los Angeles County. Survivors of DV in Los Angeles County face several barriers to safety, including poverty, limited availability of resources, and an inadequate supply of affordable housing. Through shelter and community-based case management, counseling, support groups, legal services, and services for children, Rainbow helps more than 400 families every year to find safe housing, build healthy relationships, and end the cycle of abuse. Rainbow also offers education for organizations, business, and the community at large to increase awareness of domestic violence and prevent abuse and violence in families. |
